Light travels on a motorcycle

I like to tavel light when on a long camping tour, especially if I am to ride on dirt roads. There is no need to bring the kitchen sink and "all" the commodities of back home; I actually find pleasure in making-do with less and adapt. 

 6000Km along the Australian Main Range, from balmy nights to frost in the morning. 

 

Shelter in the forest

There is no forest more enticing than a snowgum one, up high, close to tree-line.

The weather twisted trunks look spooky, the dead branches bleached by the elements; however the soft grass that grows around snowgums is inviting to place my shelter.
I feel safe here knowing that the tortured trees will shed some of the high wind, if it had to pick up during the night.

Moonless at the rock

We wanted to see the sunset from a high point, right on top of the large granite boulders, and then decided to actually camp there too.
The moon was going to rise late and the stars created again a perfect backdrop for our stage.

There was not enough light from the stars to illuminate the large boulders so a headlamp helped create this photograph, painting the rock while (long) exposing the image.

Sheltered camp

Paddling along the Northern outer fringe of the Åland archipelago we always looked for a campsite that would offer shelter from the wind and potentially increasing swell.

Camp on Kestenskär

Heavy clouds loomed around in the afternoon making camp selection a bit more tricky that day: we needed flat ground but where water would not pool under our tent.
Finally a bit higher above the sea we settled for a place that was facing towards the sunset.

Starry night

A cloudless and moonless night still bears a lot of light.
Once I turn my headlight off and I look into the sky stars come into view like in the city never can.

Journal writing

The therapeutic act of journal writing at the end of the day, time to reflect over the day's events.
The air just a bit too chilly to lay on the rock, a sleeping bag provided the comfort to feel cozy.
